December Service Projects
A. In conjunction with the Catholic Community at UTA, we can help out
Catholic Charities by donating any and all hair products for stockings this
Christmas. Many of these stockings will be going to families from New Orleans
in this area. They need all sorts of hair supplies - shampoo, conditioner, gel,
hairspray, combs, brushes, ponytail holders, barrettes, etc. They have
expressed that this is something that they're really lacking this year, and
they need to fill 150 stockings. Please bring any items to the church office
anytime during the week, or if the office is closed just leave a bag outside
the office door with my name on it by DEC 13th,2005 and I will get it.
B. ALSO, since many people in this group are new to the parish, I thought
I'd explain a long-standing ministry of the parish. if you've noticed the
large wooden bins in different entranceways, these are for *unwrapped* presents
for children. Every year, our Community Service Committee gets names of
children from the 5 most disadvantaged elementary schools in the area from
their school counselors. Each December, they have a huge Christmas party for
these children, providing each child with a toy for Christmas. This year's
party is DEC. 10, so toys need to be here by the 4th or 5th to give them time
to wrap them. The party is from 8am-2pm, so if you'd like to help and have
been through KCS training, let me know! (They're especially looking for face
painters, and we have stencils so it's not hard!)
All donations are greatly appreciated! Thank you for helping to give these
children a merry Christmas!
Peace,
Lauren Ellis
