First Eucharist Family Day

Saturday, April 16th, 2011 -10:00 am

Fifty-one children preparing for First Communion and their families gathered at church this morning to participate in learning activities about Jesus' life of service and the Eucharist. Everyone gathered in the Parish Hall for donuts and juice (or coffee).

The group was then divided into four smaller groups for different activities. The four areas were bread making, foot washing ("learning to serve with a generous and loving heart"), Holy Hands (making crafts and filling supply baskets for local charities) and making banners (created with shapes and names) as a keepsake and to hang on the pews during First Communion Mass. All groups rotated to a different area every 20 minutes with a snack break during the day.

Everyone then gathered to share bread brought from their homes. It was a great family day of learning, creating and sharing.

Thanks to Becky Lucas, Director of Religious Education, and all her helpers that made this a very special day for everyone. Our prayers are with all the children and their families as they prepare for the sacrament of First Communion.
