Catholic Scripture Study International (CSS) is an in-depth yet easy to understand study that is written in light of Catholic Tradition.  It offers solid scripture teaching that is easy for beginners to understand, yet informative and challenging enough for the more advanced Bible student.  This is the sixth year that CSS is offered at our parish.  However, no previous Bible Study experience is necessary in order to enjoy these classes!  We will begin a study of the Book of Revelation in September, 2011.

 Revelation - 20 Lessons,

Will Catholics be “Left Behind”? – 5 Lessons

This year (2011-2012) we will offer a 20-week study of The Book of Revelation followed by a 5-week study of the history of the idea of the “Rapture” and what the Church teaches about the end times.  Classes are on Monday evenings from 7:00pm - 8:30pm and on Thursday mornings from 9:45am - 11:30am. The first classes will begin on Monday, September 12 and Thursday, September 8, 2011.  We study one lesson per week through April, and we take breaks for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and Spring Break. All classes are in the Education Center.

Registration:  For the registration fee of $50 each student receives a binder with all of the lessons, study questions, and commentary.  You may fill out a registration form in the Parish Office and drop off a check made payable to MBS Church.  Register by August 23 in order to have the materials in time for the first class.  Late registrations will be accepted, however there may be a shipping charge added to the cost of the binder.

Homework:  Each week at home, students will read a chapter from Revelation and a few pages of commentary written by Dr. Scott Hahn and Mark Shea.  There are also 10 questions.  Usually we refer to a few verses from other parts of the Bible, the commentary, or a paragraph from the Catechism of the Catholic Church in order to answer the questions.

Classtime:  Each class begins with prayer.  Then we discuss in small groups what we thought was interesting from the Lesson and take turns sharing our responses to the questions. However, no one is required to participate in the discussion if he/she would rather just listen. The last half-hour of the class is devoted to listening to a lecture on DVD by Fr. Matthew Kauth. (See information about Fr. Kauth below.)

This dynamic Bible Study and fellowship will increase your love of Scripture and strengthen your faith!  For more information, call Eileen Finkenkeller at 817-265-4484 or Chris Jarboe at 817-277-8559.

About the Authors, and Lecturer from the website:  www.cssprogram.net

"Dr. Scott Hahn is one of the world's most successful Catholic authors and teachers.  He is the founder and Chairman for the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology...."

"Mark Shea is a noted Catholic author, award-winning columnist and nationally known speaker...."

Fr. Matthew Kauth was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois.  After completing his studies in philosophy at St. Charles Borromeo in Philadelphia, he transferred to the Diocese of Charlotte, NC to assist in her missionary efforts with the growing Catholic population.  He earned his ecclesiastical degree at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and was ordained to the priesthood in 2000.  After a few years of parish work in the Diocese of Charlotte, North Carolina, he is now continuing his studies in Rome.

This study will show us how Revelation is rooted in the Old Testament, the historical circumstances of the Church in the 1st Century, and in the liturgical worship of that Church.  Do not miss this study!
